What do you know about World War II? What are you interested in--weapons? battles? minority contributions? women's contributions? the sheer gravity of the War? Post a comment of what you already seem to know about this War and also what you might be interested in learning about it. Please be as specific as possible with your answers.
WWII was a war fought in 1939 and lasted until 1945. Great Britain, France, the Soviet Union, the United States, China, and more allies defeated Germany, Italy, and Japan. I want to know what women did during the war and who started the war.
ReplyDeleteI am really interested in the Nazi/Hitler part of it. I know that seems weird but thats what intrigues me the most about WWII. How could one person (Hitler) have thousands of people following him to do wrong. Thats what I am interested about.
ReplyDeleteI know Operation Overlord, Operation Barbosa, Operation Torch, island hopping, MacArthur, Eisenhower, Adolf Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Britain, Battle of wake island, Battle of Midway, Battle of Guam, Battle of Okinawa, Pearl Harbor, Atom Bomb, V2 rockets, Thompson, BAR, colt 1911 .45 cal., mosin nagant, Kar 98, Gewher, Springfield, luger, and more
ReplyDeleteI dont know/remember a lot about WWII. I know D day was the final day, and what brought us in was japan bombing pearl harbor. I would like to learn more about what the other countries perspective of us was.
ReplyDeleteI know that WWII started in 1939 and was caused by WWI because the treaty of versaille was ineffective and put too much blame on Germany
ReplyDeleteI know that WWII was fought in Europe, Africa, and the Pacific Ocean and that there was a lot of new weapons used during WWII. I would like to know more about the V2 rockets that the Germans used.
ReplyDeleteI know WWII was the deadliest war ever recorded in history, and brought out the worst weapons man kind has ever used during war. (Such as the Atomic Bomb) The Nazi party was the main antagonist for the rest of the world.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know more about how Hitler rose to power, and he was able to back an entire country behind his beliefs. I would also like to learn more about the war in the Pacific Theater. I know that the US entered the war after the Japanese bombed pearl harbor, and that America didn't fight in Europe until near the end of the war.
ReplyDeleteWWII was a war that happen between the late 1930's and mid 1940's. It was a battle between the the allies and the axes power. The USA join because of the bombing on pearl harbor and the killing of millions of jews in Europe.
ReplyDeleteI know that Hitler was a one of the main reasons of WWII. People did not like how he ran things and what he did to the Jewish people. I also know about the bombing for Pearl Harbor, which caused for US to get involved.
ReplyDeleteI know that Hitler was a huge part of World War 2. WWII was a huge war that included the U.S. I am interested in what women did to help during WWII and what kinds of things Hitler did to upset so many people.
ReplyDeleteI know that HItler led the Third Reich and the Nazis during WWII and that he had Italy and Japan as allies. I know that Churchill was the prime minister of Britain at the time too. I'm interested in weaponry and the battles of WWII, and would like to know what generals the US Army had and know the names of some of the major battles.
ReplyDeleteI know that Hitler's upraising and communism is what led to the start of WWII. I am interested in details about the war because I don't know many of them.
ReplyDeleteI know that WWII was a war fought from 1939 to 1945 and Hitler was a major dictator throughout it. Jews were discriminated and sent to concentration camps. I would like to know more about the lives of the people during WWII and what happened to some of the families.
ReplyDeleteI know, obviously, the common knowledge taught during lower level history classes (Hitler led the Third Reich, Germany, Italy and Japan were allied, et cetera). I do know about the American weaponry in specifics, ranging from the .45 ACP handgun (Widely used from WWI to present) to the .30 Rifle caliber M1 Garand, to the automatics of the Thompson automatic sub-machine gun and many many more. My knowledge of the WWII technologies exceeds that of which I should know, and the list goes on a couple of pages.
ReplyDeleteI know that World War Two probably wouldn't have happened without the effects of World War One. Essentially, Hitler would never have come to power if the people of Germany were not so desperate for a strong leader/a movement they could believe in.
ReplyDeleteI also know that WWII introduced some of the world's deadliest weapons (such as the Atomic Bomb), and ushered in a new age of even deadlier warfare.
I know that communism and Hitlers rein are main focal points on what caused WWII. I also know that US joined because of the millions of killings of jews in Europe that needed to be stopped. I am interested in the battles mainly and also the causes and effects of WWII
ReplyDeleteI learned some about World War II at the Truman Library. Most of my knowledge is of his presidential involvement in war decisions, such as dropping the bomb. I am interested to know what effects it had on America, and what conditions were like in households during the war.
ReplyDeleteIt was a huge tragedy and many lives were lost. But for some reason, i can't fathom how many lives were lost, even though i've seen the numbers. I can't imagine how people could adapt to life after living through the experience.
ReplyDeleteI know the basic stuff about WWII, such as who was on what side, what was going on, and different battles and weapons used. I've never really had a chance to study WWII beyond that though because when kids in 6th and 7th grade social studies learned about WWII, SAGE social studies was learning about geography of the world. Because of that I ended learning way more than most people about Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. But in specific I would like to learn about how the war affected the people of other countries involved, such as women's roles in other countries during the war.
ReplyDeleteMy knowledge about World War II is mostly about Hitler. He had many followers and killed thousands of people. I am interested in learning the psychology of Hitler. Why did he think it was alright to kill all those innocent people?!
ReplyDeleteI know that WWII started when Germany invaded poland. Also that it was fought between the Allies and the Axis. I find Nazi Germany very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI know that WWII helped America get out of the Great Depression, it started from Germany and thousands of Jews were sent to camps and died of either malnutrition, gas, or shot because they disobeyed the Nazis. I would like to know the names of the camps, I know a few, but not a lot.
ReplyDeleteI know that Hitler was a dictator throughout WWII. Jewish people were treated extremely poorly and sent to concentration camps. I would like to learn more about the causes and effects of WWII. I would also like to learn more about why Hitler thought and acted the way that he did throughout his reign.
ReplyDeleteI know that WWII started in Germany and that it involved Hitler and the Nazis, and that the Jews were discriminated against. I also know that WWII helped to end the depression. I would like to learn more on other countries' involvement in the war, because I really only know about Germany.
ReplyDeleteWWII was helped America get out of the depression and that is was always some of the worst time for Jewish families. I want to know how one man could make people believe something that hurt and killed other people. Why did the blindly follow him and not question enough for change?
ReplyDeleteThey didn't teach us much about WWII in SAGE, but I do know that Hitler/Germany were the major opposing forces to the US in the war, we entered after the Pearl Harbor bombing by Japan, Truman was president during this war, and Jews were severely discriminated against. I want to learn more about Hitler/the opposing side, and how America was affected by WWII.
ReplyDeleteIn Germany they first teach us about the Weimar Republic, which is basically the democratic Germany the treaty of Versailles told us to be. Nobody really liked the way Germany was at this time, if I remember correctly, because the democracy was kind of corrupt. Hitler was one of the many people who favored socialism and who would fight for it. That's why there was the "Hitler Putsch", which was a riot in bavaria, lead by Hitler to spread socialism. But the Putsch failed and Hitler was sentenced to, I think, 8 or so years in prison. Unfortunately he got out after already 3 years and won the election of 1933 (or 1932, I am not sure right now, but it was something around that time). Now he was in office, Hitler was changing the whole country to a socialist state, called the Third Reich, which officially ended the Weimar Republic. At first Hitler seemed to be friendly to all the other countries around us, but I think it was just a cover, since the world war started in 1939. I also know that America joined the World War in 1941 again on the side of the Allies (France, Great Britain, Russia), because of the bombing at Pearl Harbor and that World War 2 ended in 1945. We didn't go into much detail about what happened during the war. I only remember that Germany's first strategy was to fight a "Blitz Krieg", which means to win as much territory as fast as possible, but that obviously didn't happen. Anyway I think that is all I know about World War 2 and I hope everything I wrote is right.
ReplyDeleteFor what I want to know about this war... I think I just want to know about the American side. Why did America join the war? What was Pearl Harbor? Did World War 2 help America out of the Great Depression? Why didn't America join the war sooner?
I dont know or remember a lot about WW2 but i know a lot about the Natzi part of it, and im very interested in that.
ReplyDeleteI know several things about WWII. Ranging from Pearl Harbor to Concentration camps, to D-Day, and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.I am interested in the events that happened in WWII(the major events), weapons, and tactics.
ReplyDeleteI know that WWII was one of the most deadliest wars ever recorded. The U.S entered the war after Pearl Harbor was bombed. I would like to learn more about what people in the U.S. did during the war, and I'm interested in what happened with Hitler/ Nazis
ReplyDeleteMy great-grandpa fought in WW1 and my grandparents in South Carolina have some of the things like his diary in their house. I know that Pearl Harbor was fought during WW1, and that President Truman bombed the Japanese with this first nuke. I've mostly learned what happened in Germany, nothing else like what Americans did other than boosted their production. Natalie Greenig
ReplyDeleteI know the WWII was fought during the 1940s and caused a large amount of devastation all over the world. I also know that Hitler was one of the main causes for the start of WWII because he thought people who weren’t perfect Anglos needed to be killed. I know that the Jews were sent to concentration camps and were forced to work, and then were killed. The part of WWII that interests me the most is Hitler and the Nazis because I think it’s ridiculous that so much discrimination was present just because one man persuaded thousands of people to share his personal thoughts and feelings.
ReplyDeleteHistory is and has been my favorite subject for a long time. My absolute favorite period of history to study is WWII. I have been studying it on my one since fifth grade. Also I love reading; I have gained lots of knowledge of WWII through books. I know Mrs. Pabon, you told us to be as specific as possible but I could write books on all of my knowledge. Since I assume you don't have time to reads books and while i don't have time to write them, I will let you know that I know things about WWII that most kids my age don't know. For example that Russia captured people that they thought were a threat from countries like Lithuania and held them in concentration camps of about 15 years.
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about WW2 except for that Hitler was involved with it. I would like to learn more about the battles and causes of the war.
ReplyDeleteI don't particularly like wars. They're kind of stupid because they cause death, destruction, and cost a lot of money. Sure, they do work things out. But that only happens when one "team" beats another "team" because they have more money or people to fight. The best idea and way things should work doesn't always prevail. If nations would just talk and hold meetings about what would work best and if they could get over their differences that way, it would be much more simple. Sadly, that seems to not be do-able. One of the biggest reasons being that most countries are led by men who would rather fight to the death over something than simply communicate in a more intelligent manor like women prefer to do... but anyways. WWII was considered the largest scaled war in history, having the most countries involved and highest death rate. One of the largest contributors was Germany led by Hitler who was murdering innocent people, mostly Jews. This is why wars aren't my most favorite subject. They're gruesome and sad. I would like to learn more about how women affected WWII because women are less likely to be in favor of meaningless fighting which causes such death.
ReplyDeleteHere's a cute little story to add...
ReplyDeleteMy daughter, who just turned seven, was watching something on the news with me that mentioned WWII in some peripheral way. She instantly turned to me and started asking about what "Grandpa James" did in the war. Her middle name is "James" and she is named after my grandfather... who passed away well before she was born. So, she's curious about him.
I told her the basics of the fact that he "flew the hump" in the China-Burma-India Theater... that he was a radio operator on a C-46, etc. I then told her that I had an iPad app ($15 at the time) that I reviewed for my previous job, and that I could download it if she wanted to learn some more about the war.
I knew she would appreciate it because she is a pretty voracious reader for her age. I also assumed she'd like the video clips within the app. What surprised me was the length of time she actually spent with the app over the course of the following three days. For one thing, she was transfixed watching the black and white footage. She reads a lot of mythology/fantasy stuff... and she was pretty blown about by the fact that this rather outrageous footage actually happened.
The climax of the story is that while at dinner for her birthday on Sunday evening, she was sitting across from me in the booth... by her mom. I saw her lean over and whisper something to her while we were awaiting our food... and here is what she said:
"Mommy... I'm sorry that you're part German."
;) How about THAT? Such a funny moment that I'm sure we'll not soon forget. So, as you can imagine, a good conversation followed that. If you'd have told me I would be discussing themes like: free will, freedom of choice, old enemies can become friends, standing up for what is right, ...wait, OK. I take that back. Of course you talk about those things with a seven year old. Just probably not quite to the level of nuance this required. Parenting a curious child = never a dull moment.

ReplyDeleteIn many respects this is sort of a forgotten theater of operations in WWII. I don't ever remember a focus on this in my formal schooling. Of course, having a relative involved made me want to learn so much more as the Internet grew up and matured along the way. I can't say that I was ever moved to do library research back in the days prior to the web. I knew enough about his time there from his stories, or from my Dad... but I didn't really learn a lot of the details of what I know until it came time to post these photos online. At that time a simple Google search brought me more information than I could ever have time to learn on the subject.

ReplyDeleteWWII was a war fought largely against Germany's dictator Adolf Hitler. Hitler was a man that was a grand persuader. he had a large affect on the population of Germany. He did many cruel things during his time of power one of the well known things were his concentration camps he put the Jews in.
