This video should give you insight into how life was changed for so many Americans during WWII. Post a comment about one social group and how WWII changed their social status from that point of history on. Which social group do you think made the most gains? Why?
The Japanese American- they were all put in labor camps during WWII, and hated by most Americans. Sometimes when you talk to men who served in WWII they will say those darn Japs. Which is racial discrimination
ReplyDeleteI think that the Women made the most gains during the war. They were now helping and starting to be accepted by men. More married women were working in factories than single women and jobs were getting done way faster than ever before.
ReplyDeleteThe Women were allowed to do jobs perviously unavailable to them were now open to them. I think Women were the most benefited. More women could join the military, work in factories, and teach
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese Americans- the Japanese Americans were really hated by most Americans. They were talked bad about and were put in labor camps. More than 110,000 people were sent to these camps.
ReplyDeleteThe Women began doing jobs that were previously jobs only done by men. Also over 300,000 women were enlisted in the army during WWII. Women made many social improvements during WWII
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese-Americans were treated much like the jews were in Europe. We sent them to camps to work, but they were better conditions than the Jewish people had. And Women had the most gain in social status, they helped a large amount during the war and that meant something to people.
ReplyDeleteThe women because they had very little things that they could do, but now men are being more excepting, and the were let in the war as well. Alot of women now will have jobs and not just sit and cook and clean.
ReplyDeleteWomen definitely had the biggest change in WWII because they became more involved in the workforce and were even able to volunteer in the WAAC. They were respected to do the same jobs men could do and did them just as well.
ReplyDeletei think women had the biggest gain because they got many more opportunities for building planes and armor.
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese-American were the ones who had the most trouble in America. We sent them to camps to wok. Woman had the most to gain because they weren't just stay at home moms. They actually had a job and they helped so much during the war.
ReplyDeleteWomen had the biggest gain to me because they were contributing so much to to the work force. You would find tons of women working in factories a job usually the men would do. They were making a change and being treated more equal.
ReplyDeleteI think that women made the most gain because a double standard was abolished. Women, especially married women, could now work and maintain a job and not be judged for it.
ReplyDeleteGerman-Americans lives changed tremendously during WWII, because of the War starting and happening BECAUSE of Germany, many Americans outcasted or exiled and bullied these people in the country. But the social group that made the most gains from WWII is definitely women. When most men went into the military, many jobs were left unattended, so women took up the challenge. They made much more than they had been making then their previous job.
ReplyDeleteI think women really made the biggest gain. They got to go to work and actually make good money. They made more in factories and in jobs men left to go fight the war, than they did before. Even African American women got to work.
ReplyDeleteI think women gained the most throughout WWII. They were able to work while men fought in war. They got to help out their country and support their families. From this point on, women were seen differently through the workforce.
ReplyDeleteWomen defiantly made the biggest gain because when all the men left to go fight women had to step up and work in factories making weapons and vehicles.
ReplyDeletePre-video commentary: I know that in the presence of a Total War, or just a war at all, women become prominent in the workplace. Women during wartime were to work jobs normally worked by the men of the workplace. However, these men were no longer in the workplace, and had transferred to the battlefield. Women took factory jobs, produce jobs, and other miscellaneous things of the like. The minority class also made a huge appearance during wars. These "other peoples," to put it bluntly, took the jobs of the "white man" of the workplace. I'd say that the "older minorities" of the American Workforce have made the most gains since the World Wars, but the women gained more. It is true that there was a large amount of discriminatory behaviour towards German-Americans and Japanese-Americans, but these behaviours passed in later years, and these minorities gained a larger voice.
ReplyDeleteI think women are the main focus here. There social status has changed the most and come along way. Women started out having little to no rights or jobs. Now you see them working beside men and working in factories. They have made the most gains, gaining respect, jobs and money to support there families. Also if you think about it that has made a huge impact on women today who have great jobs and can do anything a man can. So thanks to the Women of WWII who have paved the way for women today.
ReplyDeleteThere were major changes in how women were viewed during WWII because they started to replace men in industrial jobs and such. However, I think African Americans did have some gains. Although there was still a lot of conflict, there was progress. The ability to fight in the battles was an accomplishment for African Americans, and they gained the pride of defending their country while fighting racism as well.
ReplyDeleteI think Women made the most gains during the war. They helped and started to be accepted by men in most things including jobs. More married women were working in factories than single women. Because of this production increased due to a new working force.
ReplyDeleteI think women tremendously increased in the rights they were given during WWII. Due to most men serving in WWII, women stepped up into the society. From working in factories to serving in the war, women were socially accepted. They were no longer stay home mom's, they now served their country.
ReplyDeleteI think African Americans made the most social gains because they formed organizations against discrimination, they migrated to other places in America and many of them served in WW2
ReplyDeleteJapanese Americans struggled the most during this time - they were discriminated against because we were scared that their population was infiltrated with Japanese spies. We held them in internment camps and took them away from their homes. It wasn't fair to take them away from their lives like that. I think that women made great strides during the war. They were offered new positions connected to battle, such as medicine and production. However, they were still payed less than men.
ReplyDeleteJapanese Americans had it the hardest during the war, because they were looked badly upon. They were put into camps to keep them out of public since people didn't trust them.
ReplyDeleteI think women gained a lot from the war period. They were put in spots that were usually done by men since all the men were overseas at war. People changed the way they viewed women after this point.
I think that the women made the most gains because they definitely started to find their place in the world. While men were at war the jobs were left and they got to work in situations they never had before. Also, those who wanted it, got more of a chance to participate in wartime activities. But for those who had it the worst I would think that the Japanese Americans had it really hard. They were put in camps and were kept away from society and where people were looking down on them like they were lesser and a more untrustworthy people.
ReplyDeleteWomen obviously gained the most during this time period. The most important thing they gained was the right to do the same jobs that men do. This was a major gain for women because they were looked to as stay at home moms and as the people that would to the simple jobs like sewing, typing, etc. In addition to jobs on the home front they were able to hold positions in the military forces (non-battle involved).
ReplyDeleteI think the most dramatic change that occurred during this time was the change in the role of women. I think it is awesome that women were finally able to get jobs and careers that they could never have gotten pre-WWII. It's sad that it took a world war to allow women to emerge in the workforce, but at least it happened.
ReplyDeletewomen had to step up when all the men were gone and some even went with them not to hurt but to heal. back home they built all the needs of the fighters across the sea
ReplyDeleteI think that Japanese Americans social status changed the most during the war in America. They went from being doctors, lawyers, shop owners, to being monitored 24/7 by US soldiers.
ReplyDeleteI think African Americans gained the most during the war in America. African American soldiers were finally recognized as helpful, purposeful people. They were valued among the armed forces of America. It helped them integrate into caucasian only units.
The role of women changed a lot during WWII. They were accepted into the work force and some were over seas with the soldiers. Women defiantly made a ton of social gains during WWII.
